Nuclear medicine technologists (NMTs) have multiple pathways toward certification in the field. NMTs can be certified through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Certification Board (NMTCB). While the ARRT offers certification in multiple medical imaging modalities, the NMTCB focuses on its mission to serve those practicing in the nuclear medicine community.1 Following certification, there may be various state licensure or regulatory requirements an NMT may need to meet in order to practice. The purpose of this article is to outline the certifications offered by the NMTCB so that medical imaging leaders can ensure NMT positions are appropriately structured and are aware of advanced certifications. These certifications validate expertise within the nuclear medicine departments and may be of value as a potential avenue toward career ladders.
